So it was no secret that I let myself get pretty out of shape. But since I get to teach students next year who I know will raise my blood pressure to 11, I really had to start doing something. Enter my XBox 360, Kinect, and Ubisoft “Your Shape”.
Sounded like a good deal: workout from home and get some results while improving my gamer score. Sweet! Then it tries to kill me and here we are.
In all seriousness, it is a good workout. I sweat, Phil laughs at me, and I hurt when it's done. However I forget that it is a machine sometimes and that many machines and I do not get along.
Case in point: I wanted to try a new workout. A new one was downloaded in December, but I had ignored it. I looked and the tags next to it read "Advanced: Recommended."
So I thought, "Well it has been tracking my progress for a while, perhaps I can do this."
My body had a few reservations, "Umm...it says "Advanced. I'm not sure that's a good idea just yet."
Me: "But the program clearly shows it is recommended. We'll be fine. No pain, no gain right?"
Exactly 10 minutes later...
Body: "AHHHHH! What in the hell are you doing??"
Me: "Sorry, sorry. But it the 360 said..."
Body: "Let's see how you do without the use of your legs, huh? What's the machine say about that?!"
I collapsed to the floor with the video still reminding me that "lunges should be lower." So valuable lesson learned: never trust the machine. In all seriousness though, it is a great little program. I’ve logged on every day for the past two weeks and like that it kind of keeps me accountable. It is working too, which for me is the more important part. So provided you like to work and have at least an hour free, this is almost as good as a gym class, except only your husband will laugh at you. It needs more stretching exercises for after the workout, but it does work. If you get the “Your Shape” program I highly suggest the Cardio Boxing routine or the Bollywood routine.
